Basic Welding Skill Set

This short course will introduce you to welding, as well as safety and workshop requirements and procedures. Learn how to handle and familiarise yourself with welding equipment over eight 3-hour sessions, without the stress of applying for a whole trade.

This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

Learn welding basics

Welding is a fabrication process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, primarily by using high temperature to melt the parts together and allow them to cool, causing fusion.

Safety wear requirements

Students are required to wear personal protective clothing at all times, including:

  • Steel capped safety boots
  • Clear safety glasses
  • Protective clothing suitable to hot works (long pants, cotton long-sleeved shirt).

  • Secondary school aged persons (in 2024, students born on or after 1 July 2006 who are at least 15 years old in 2024) undertaking training that is not part of a VET Delivered to Secondary Schools program, the maximum course (tuition) fee chargeable is $420. Additional resource fees and discretionary fees may apply. 
  • VET Student Loans for eligible courses and fee caps may be subject to changes implemented by the Australian Government.
