Apprenticeships and traineeships

Pre Apprenticeship Training

Pre Apprenticeship training is available as a stepping stone to an apprenticeship. This option may be appealing to students who have not yet gained employment as an apprentice or trainee but wish to do so in the future.

You do not have to have an employer to participate in pre-apprenticeship training, however there may be some work experience or industry placement as part of the course.

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a full time employment based training program usually lasting 3-4 years. It combines on the job learning and scheduled training with a registered training provider such as Central Regional TAFE.

We provide scheduled training for the following apprenticeship qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Bricklaying/Blocklaying
  • Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery
  • Certificate III in Electro-technology (Electrician)
  • Certificate III in Plumbing
  • Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Duty, Heavy Road, Mobile Plant Agriculture)
  • Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade)
  • Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade)
  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
  • Certificate III in Hairdressing.

You as the employer are obliged to provide your Apprentice with the following:

  • Employment and training for the duration of the Apprenticeship.
  • Every opportunity to learn the skills of the trade.
  • Necessary time off work, with pay, to attend and complete the relevant off-the-job training.
  • A working environment and conditions which contribute to the learning of the trade.
  • The Apprentice’s Training Journal as required for on-the-job assessment.
  • Ensuring that apprentice brings the Training Journal when attending Central Regional TAFE.

Traineeships

A Traineeship is a full time employment based training program usually lasting 12 months or more.

Please note that Western Australia makes a distinction between apprentices and trainees. However in the Australian Apprenticeships system, all trainees/apprentices are referred to as Australian Apprentices.

You as the employer are obliged to provide your Trainee with the following

  • Employment, training and supervision for the duration of the Traineeship.
  • Every opportunity to learn the skills of the Qualification.
  • Necessary time off work, with pay, to attend and complete off-the-job training if this is required.
  • A working environment and conditions which contribute to the learning of the Qualification.
  • To work with us to develop a training plan that will be reviewed regularly.

We employ appropriate staff whose positions are designed to assist in all areas associated with Traineeship training and to provide high levels of customer service to employers of Trainees.

School Based Traineeships

A school-based traineeship provides an opportunity for full-time secondary school students to begin preparing themselves for a career in the workforce. With a school based traineeship you can work towards secondary graduation and an industry recognised qualification.
