Two Central Regional TAFE students are winners at this year’s WA Training Awards.

Geraldton student Benjamin Rowe has taken out the WA School-Based Apprentice of the year and Kyle Morgan, also a Geraldton student has won the WA Vocational Student of the Year category.

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery presented the 2017 Training Awards (a program which recognises individual talent in the training sector) at the annual presentation dinner in Perth last week.

Training in Wiluna has seen recent success due to a partnership between the Wiluna Remote Community School (WRCS) and Central Regional TAFE (CRT).

After a significant community effort, the WRCS opened a Vocational Education Training Centre in June this year. CRT has provided support for the centre and is currently training students in Automotive, and Conservation and Land Management programs.

The first of several regional WorldSkills Australia competitions to be held at Central Regional TAFE took place at the Geraldton campus on Friday, September 8.

Seven (7) students from the Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) Plumbing program participated in the competition. This is the first time a VETiS plumbing competition has been held in Western Australia.

Central Regional TAFE’s Batavia Coast Maritime Institute has won an award at this year’s WA Coastal Awards for Excellence.

Announced by Minister for Transport; Planning; Lands, Rita Saffioti at the Awards Ceremony held in Perth last week, the award for ‘On-ground Coastal Management’ was in recognition of work protecting and restoring native flora and habitat at the Houtman Abrolhos Islands.
