RIIVEH305E Operate and Maintain a Four Wheel Drive Vehicle

This course is designed for users who are required to learn how to drive, control and manage a vehicle under hazardous or operational conditions. In order to undertake this short course you must hold a current C Class License recognised in the state of Western Australia. It is preferred that students have some experience with driving on unsealed roads but this is not essential.

Students will learn to competently drive vehicles safely, including the systematic, safe and efficient control of all vehicles functions and effective management of hazardous situations under operational conditions. It will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle.

The course will cover:

•    introduction to 4WD Vehicles

•    compliance documentation

•    plan for minimal environmental impact

•    conduct Routine checks

•    plan journey

•    4WD inspection checklist

•    drive the 4WD

•    recover a 4WD using a snatchstrap

•    use a jack

•    conduct routine maintenance, and

•    conclude operations

This is a nationally recognised unit of competency and upon successful completion you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

At Central Regional TAFE, three types of fees may be charged:

  • Course fees - set by the State Government and are calculated on the category of enrolment.  Students studying a certificate course may be eligible for a concession. Concession students pay 30% of the course fees (not incidental, resource or other fees).
  • Resource fees - covers materials purchased by the TAFE which will be consumed or transformed by students in the course of instruction, such as workshop materials & workbooks.
  • Other fees - charged for goods and services that are provided by the TAFE such as security, name badges and IT infrastructure. 

In addition to these fees, students may need to purchase textbooks, uniforms and other course specific equipment.
