Half Price Courses

lowerfees_jswa_large.jpg

How would you like to get a nationally recognised and accredited qualification but pay only half-price course fees? Sometimes fees are even less than half price. We also have fee caps of $400 for 15-24 year olds or eligible concession students and $1,200 for non-concession students.

There's a large range of qualifications available, all carefully matched matched up with the skills employers are looking for, so you'll be job ready. And they're available right here at Central Regional TAFE — some are also available online.

How does it work?

Some qualifications are half price right now and some will be half price from January 2021.  These icons will help you identify them.

halfprice_crt_White.png       Half price now                  crt_2021.png        Half price from January 2021

What's better than half price course fees? How about a fees cap!

Lower fees Local Skills half price qualifications are free for everyone, but it gets better! There's an annual fee cap as well. This means that regardless of how much your course fees actually are, you will not pay more than a set total amount per qualification or course per year. The fees cap is set at $400 for eligible concession students, and $1,200 for non-concession students.

Who is eligible for the concession rate and the course fee cap of $400?

The following people will be eligible for the $400 annual course fees cap under Lower fees, local skills

  • All students aged 15—24 years
  • Persons and dependents of persons holding:
    • a pensioner concession card;
    • a repatriation health benefits card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs; or
    • a Health Care Card
  • Persons and dependents of persons in receipt of the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons and dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution
  • Secondary school-aged persons, not enrolled at school

Please note: Only course tuition fees are half price for the Lower fees, local skills qualifications. You may be required to pay other fees for resources that are specifically needed for your course.

This program is funded by JobTrainer— a joint initiative of the Western Australian and Australian Governments.

The work of technical assistants involves similar tasks within one scientific discipline with occasional peak periods and some interruptions. They:

  • work according to established procedures in a structured environment
  • collect and prepare samples
  • conduct a wide range of basic tests and a limited range of specialised tests and measurements using manual, semi-automated and fully automated techniques
  • define and solve problems of limited complexity where the information available is less obvious, but not contradictory, and can be determined by direct reasoning

Take the next step in your career with this workplace based intermediate-level course designed to enhance laboratory skills and broaden scientific knowledge in your chosen technical field.

They may liaise with suppliers to troubleshoot product non-conformance at the direction of laboratory supervisors or managers, or gather information on non-conformance and events that may lead to the modification of workplace procedures. They may also demonstrate methods to others and train them to collect samples and conduct basic tests reliably. The work of technical officers involves frequent peak periods and interruptions.

Technical officers:

  • work according to established procedures in a structured environment
  • collect and prepare samples and communicate sample requirements to other personnel
  • conduct a wide range of routine and specialised tests where atypical samples may be involved and the instrumentation used has a wide range of operating variables
  • contribute to the modification of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and enterprise methods when necessary
  • define and solve problems where alternatives are not obvious and where investigations and trials may be required and the implications of various solutions considered
  • work under the direction and supervision of senior technical staff, laboratory or quality managers, or scientific/medical professionals, and
  • generally work as part of a team and may have a role in the planning of schedules and monitoring of resources in their work area.
