When you complete this course you will greatly improve your chance of getting a mechanical fitting or machinist apprenticeship in industries such as mining, industrial, defence, automotive, or hydraulics.

Half-price

This course is half price for everyone (excl. school students) as part of the Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative. Fees are also capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession. Find out more here.

RTO Entry Requirements

Candidates will undergo an aptitude test prior to enrolment. The lecturer of the course will arrange an interview prior to the enrolment process to ascertain the level of LLN and make applications for CAVVS support if required. Note this aptitude test is not intended to specifically exclude students from enrolment however may be used to rank students if there are more applicants than available places.

Uniform Requirements:

  • Long Drill trousers (navy blue) and long sleeve shirt (Hi Vis Yellow and navy blue)
  • Steel capped boots that comply with Australian standards

A minimum of 60 hours work placement is required.

Work placement arrangements are conducted throughout the course commencing in term 3. Work placement needs to be completed before certificates are awarded. It is encouraged that all students begin their work placement during the first term and complete it by the end of the course date. Students will be encouraged to find their own work placement however assistance will be provided by lecturers where this is not possible. Students finding their own work placement will need to discuss this with their lecturers to ensure the workplace meets the needs of the program.

Certification

Upon successful completion you will receive a Certificate II in Engineering (Mechanical Fitter and Machinist Pre-Apprenticeship).

A Pre-Apprenticeship course enables you to experience what it is like to work in a trade before you make a commitment to an Apprenticeship course or trade area.  Pre-Apprenticeships do not require you to have an employment contract.
