A career as an operator in the Civil construction industry provides a diverse working environment where no two days are the same. You’ll be required to apply a broad range of skills, and provide theoretical advice and support to a team. As a qualified operator the job opportunities are endless, particurlarly in the construction and mining industry.

As part of your training you will learn how to:

  • Carry out measurements and calculations
  • Identify, locate and protect underground services
  • Carry out manual excavation
  • Use hand and power tools
  • Operate small plant and equipment
  • Conduct civil construction skid steer loader operations
  • Conduct backhoe/loader operations
  • Conduct roller operations
  • Implement traffic management plan
  • Control traffic with stop-slow bat
  • Drain and dewater civil construction site and more!

Half price courses under the Lower Fees, Local skills initiative are half price for everyone, plus there are fee caps. The fees cap means that regardless of how much your course fees are, under Lower fees, local skills you will not pay more than a set total amount.

The concession rate course fee cap of $400 (from the date the new fee applied) applies to:

  • All students aged 15-24 years
  • Persons and dependents of persons holding: 
    • a pensioner concession card;
    • a repatriation health benefits card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs; or
    • a Health Care Card
  • Persons and dependents of persons in receipt of the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons and dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution
  • Secondary school-aged persons, not enrolled at school.

The non-concession course fee cap is $1,200 (from the date the new fee applied).

OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate I or Certificate II

 

  • Students must be 18 years of age and over.
  • A formal interview process will take place prior to enrolment with students selected on merit.
  • The course will follow Industry expectations with random drug and alcohol testing to take place.

Delivery location, important dates and study options

Training at CRTAFE will be offered with a blended, flexible delivery model to enable social distancing measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. This approach may include a combination of online and classroom based delivery, as well as practical and work experience placements. While the mode of delivery may vary, the content and key learning outcomes of the course will remain the same. Lecturers will provide specific instructions to their student groups on how training will be undertaken and the support available to them.
