Would you like to work in a school environment?Are you interested in supporting students to develop their literacy and numeracy skills? This may include supporting students with additional needs. In this qualification you will gain knowledge required to support students and assist teacher"s education programs. You will have the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of tasks in the classroom and school setting to contextualize this knowledge and improve your practical skills.
This qualification is nationally recognised, providing you with future job opportunities to gain employment in the education sector. It is aimed at workers who provide assistance and support to teachers and students in a range of educational settings. These may include public, Catholic and independent schools and community education centres.
You will learn how to effectively communicate with students and colleagues, provide support to students in developing their literacy and numeracy skills and learn how to work collaboratively as part of an educational team. As part of this qualification you will undertake supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.
You will gain the following skills:
- Improving literacy and numeracy in classrooms
- Understanding and applying legal and ethical requirements
- Integrating Information Communication Technology (ICT) across the curriculum
- Implementing planned education programs for students with additional needs
- Working effectively with culturally diverse students and staff, and
- Contributing to the safety and health of students.

A Work Placement must be undertaken as part of this course.

The fees identified above for this course are (predominantly) based on full-time face-to-face delivery (or Apprenticeship/Traineeship delivery) for this course. Fees may vary depending on your choice of units and some delivery modes. You can also find details of all course costs on our Fees page here.
At Central Regional TAFE, three types of fees may be charged:
- Course fees - set by the State Government and are calculated on the category of enrolment. Students studying a certificate course may be eligible for a concession. Concession students pay 30% of the course fees (not incidental, resource or other fees).
- Resource fees - covers materials purchased by the TAFE which will be consumed or transformed by students in the course of instruction, such as workshop materials & workbooks.
- Other fees - charged for goods and services that are provided by the TAFE such as security, name badges and IT infrastructure.
In addition to these fees, students may need to purchase textbooks, uniforms and other course specific equipment.
