This qualification provides individuals with the skills and knowledge to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment in buildings and premises. It includes Electrical Regulatory Authority Council (ERAC), or their successor’s, Essential Performance Capabilities for an ‘Unrestricted Electrician’s license’.

Competency development activities in this qualification are subject to regulations directly related to licensing. Where a licence or permit to practice is not held, a relevant contract of training through an Australian Apprenticeship, may be required. To obtain an Unrestricted Electrician’s Licence in most jurisdictions the qualification must be completed as an apprenticeship or Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) pathway. Where required for Licencing, the certification documentation issued must indicate if the qualification was completed as an apprenticeship or Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) pathway.

Half-price

This course is half price for everyone (excl. school students) as part of the Lower Fees, Local Skills initiative. Fees are also capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession. Find out more here.

OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate I or Certificate II

Candidates must be an indentured apprentice with a Training Contract in place with Central Regional TAFE.

Licensing, Legislation and Regulation Requirements

Candidates are required to be indentured Apprentices in the Electrical Industry through a workplace that will allow appropriate Training to receive an “Electricians Licence” issued by Department of Mines, Industry Regulation & Safety.

In Western Australia, the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations 1991 require that electrical work may only be carried out by persons with the appropriate electrical worker's licence (as issued by the Electrical Licensing Board) unless it is a type of work that is exempted by regulation.

Candidates are required to hold, or immediately apply for an “Electrical Training License” from Department of Mines, Industry Regulation & Safety. The RTO is to make Employers & Apprentices aware of this requirement, however it is the Employer / Electrical Contractors responsibility, under the WA ELR 1991 to ensure their Employees hold the appropriate License for the scope of work to be undertaken.

Certification

Upon successful completion you will receive a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.
