This diploma will provide you with the skills and knowledge to manage the operation of a child care centre where you would be responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services (0-5 years), in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. You would also supervise staff and volunteers.
During this course you will learn to provide care and meet the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of infants and young children in various care settings.
As part of this qualification you will undertake ongoing work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned. You will work closely with children from different backgrounds and cultures and provide care and support for them.
You will gain skills in:
- Ethical work practices and legal requirements of the industry
- Advanced skills in:
- Care routines
- Working with families
- Observing and recording children's behaviour
- Working with culturally diverse clients
- Managing safety in the workplace.
This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

RTO Entry Requirements
- Students need to be working in the industry in a contracted arrangement between the employer (i.e., Child Care Service or Third-Party Provider) and employee (i.e., student):
Whereas the employer agrees to employment for the term of the traineeship and supports the employee’s training for that period.
- Students MUST participate in an interview with the lecturer (face to face or phone) prior to enrolment.
- Students MUST complete a Client Needs Form provided by the lecturer prior to enrolment. This form is designed to record the specific needs and/or additional requirements identified by the individual client that may affect their chances of successful participation in and/or completion of the course.
- A Working With Children Check (for those over 18 years of age) and Medical Clearance must be obtained prior to starting work t in a regulated early childhood education and care setting.
- Students are required to comply with WA Early Childhood Education and Care Regulations (2012) in regard to Reg. 83 concerning alcohol or drugs, including prescriptions that can impair a person’s ability to supervise or care for children.
- To successfully complete the qualification, students will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID (as mandated by the state and federal government).
Students are required to complete the LLN assessment (via LLN Robot) prior to participating in the course. Furthermore, Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) requirements must be met if applying for VET Fee Help Loan (LLN Robot)

First Aid - HLTAID004
Please note that Central Regional TAFE has a partnership arrangement with The Royal Life Saving Society Western Australia Inc (RLSSWA) RTO # 0854 to deliver and assess First Aid (HLTAID004) on their behalf. RLSSWA are the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) therefore Central Regional TAFE follows all of RLSSWA’s organisational policies and procedures when delivering and assessing all units of competence. A fee of $19.80 will be paid to RLSSWA for issuance of Certificates/statements of attainments.
VET Student Loans
This qualification is eligible for the Commonwealth Government's VET Student Loan scheme. Eligible students can opt to defer the payment of all or part of their tuition fees by applying for a VET Student Loan. VET Student Loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. Approved loans become a personal debt with the Commonwealth (HELP debt) until it is repaid.
