Are you looking for a career working with plants and animals?

You will have the skills and knowledge to work effectively in the land conservation industry, operating machinery, recognising flora and fauna, planting shrubs and trees, organising propagation, restoring and maintaining wildlife habitat refuges, treating weeds, safely handling chemicals, collecting seeds, and implementing workplace safety and health measures.

This qualification is offered as a dual certificate along with the Certificate II in Horticulture at our Geraldton Campus.

This program is linked to the Unit of Competence AHCMOM213 Operate and maintain Chainsaws.  This is a nationally recognised unit of competency and upon successful completion you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

This course is designed to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence required to safely operate a hand-held chainsaw and maintain it in working condition.

Content covered includes:

  • OHS - Duty of Care
  • Personal protective equipment and clothing
  • Chainsaw components and functions
  • General maintenance tasks/tensions
  • Correct start-up procedures
  • Safe techniques for crosscutting and felling.

  • preparing for and carrying out management programs, under general direction
  • completing and assessing management programs under general direction
  • carrying out weed management programs that require chemical spraying
