Early Childhood Education and Care

A qualification in children’s services can be very rewarding and engaging as you become part of a child’s growth and development and help them learn in an environment that is engaging and supporting. Our courses will provide you with the basic skills needed to assist in caring for the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of infants and young children in various care settings – through to the skills and knowledge to manage the operation of a child care centre.

Are you interested in working with children in an education and care service? Do you enjoy providing care to babies and children?

Early Childhood Education and Care is an expanding sector for those with a genuine interest and passion in the care and education of young children up to the age of 5 years. The sector is demanding higher qualifications and training from educators in this field to ensure consistently high standards of education and care for children placed in these services. This can be achieved by completing the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

You'll learn how to interact and foster the development of the children while working within legal requirements and ensuring the children's health and safety are not at risk. You will work closely with children from different backgrounds and cultures and provide care and support for them in various child care situations.

You will gain skills in:

  • Caring for children
  • Applying health and hygiene principles
  • Understanding legal and ethical requirements
  • Providing nutritional needs for babies and children
  • Developing and implementing play experiences
  • Understanding child development stages
  • Working with families and working effectively in a team environment. 
Our Focus on Flexible Options

Many of our courses offer flexible learning options that provide you with the opportunity to study whenever and wherever suits you.  Flexible options can include online learning, workplace assessment, recognition of prior learning and correspondence type programs that can sometimes be supplemented by block or focussed delivery.

We strive to offer a mix of flexible options that suit your needs.  Typically flexible learning options are open for enrolment all year round, allowing you to start any time and completed within 6 months of your start date.  Choose the right amount of units for you to study at any given time. 

Our Self Paced External courses can be accessed anywhere and anytime, regardless of your geographical location!

A fulfilling career helping children grow and develop

This diploma will provide you with the skills and knowledge to manage the operation of a child care centre where you would be responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services (0-5 years), in accordance with licensing, accreditation and duty of care requirements. You would also supervise staff and volunteers.

During this course you will learn to provide care and meet the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of infants and young children in various care settings.

As part of this qualification you will undertake ongoing work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned. You will work closely with children from different backgrounds and cultures and provide care and support for them.

You will gain skills in:

  • Ethical work practices and legal requirements of the industry
  • Advanced skills in:
    • Care routines
    • Working with families
    • Observing and recording children's behaviour
    • Working with culturally diverse clients
    • Managing safety in the workplace.

First aid course for teachers and carers.

This first aid course is for teachers, support staff and carers employed in an education and care setting. Students will gain the skills and knowledge to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults in a range of emergency situations. Topics covered include:

  • Recognise and assess an emergency situation
  • Applying appropriate first aid procedures 
  • Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Anaphylactic emergencies
  • Asthmatic emergencies

This course may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulations (2011).
