New qualifications and skill sets for 2023! 

From 1 January 2023, a range of skill sets and qualifications in priority industry areas will be FREE - no course fees!

The FREE IN '23 initiative is a joint training agreement secured between State and Commonwealth governments, which will provide 18,800 fee-free TAFE and vocational education training (VET) places for Western Australian in 2023 - making training more affordable to help Western Australians build better lives and support industry to fill skill gaps.

Free* Job Ready Skill Sets

Not all jobs need a full qualification, and maybe you don't either — skill sets are the perfect solution. 

Some are 100% free for everyone including:

Others are free for eligible students - including displaced workers, concession students and youth up to 25 years (not at school).  There are fee paying options for those that don't meet the eligibility.

  • Persons aged 15—24 years at the time of enrolment (excluding school students)
  • Secondary school-aged persons who are not enrolled at school
  • Persons receiving the JobSeeker or JobKeeper payment
  • Persons and dependents of persons receiving the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons and dependents of persons holding:
    • a pensioner concession card or Health Care Card; or
    • a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs
  • Dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution

Free Infection Control Skill Sets

Heavy Vehicle Driving Operations Skill Set

    Working with youth is a rewarding and challenging career, where you can make a big difference in the lives of children and young people. Learn how to create a range of community-based programs designed to address the social, behavioural, health, welfare, developmental and protection needs of young people while working to legal and ethical requirements. You will undertake a supervised or simulated work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

      This qualification reflects the role of community service workers who design and deliver person-centred services to individuals and/or groups. Workers may provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services.

      At this level, workers may be autonomous with limited responsibility within established parameters and may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams. Work may take place in a range of community service, case work or case management contexts.
