Central Regional TAFE (CRTAFE) has appointed a new Director of Training for the Kalgoorlie Campus.

Chelsie Grace, a born and bred ‘Kalgoorlie-an’ and long term resident will officially commence in the role next week.

A wife and professional working mother to two teenage boys, she commenced her career as a trained Occupational Therapist.

Central Regional TAFE’s (CRTAFE) Geraldton campus Open Day is set to be bigger than ever with several activities planned for all ages.

Attendees will be able to explore the many possibilities available to them at TAFE by trying hands-on interactive activities, viewing campus facilities and speaking to experienced staff and lecturers who can provide one-on-one advice specifically for their needs.

The event will also feature tours, competitions, a live radio broadcast and free food and drinks.

Geraldton will join over 26 other Cities across Australia in this year’s GovHack competition on the 6-8 September.

Hosted by Central Regional TAFE, the event is the largest open government and open data hackathon in the southern hemisphere. The international competition attracts thousands of participants each year who come together in simultaneous events taking place in major and regional cities across the country.

Central Regional TAFE‘s (CRTAFE) Batavia Coast Maritime Institute (BCMI), in an Australian first for marine ornamentals aquaculture, have successfully spawned and cultured a rare Australian coral reef fish species.

The broodstock of Rainfordia opercularis, otherwise known as the Flathead Perch, were sourced from the Dampier region of Western Australia, and within ten months of care, staff were surprised to find the trio of fish releasing eggs (spawning).

The toilet block at Town Beach in Exmouth is looking fresher than ever thanks to a set of new murals which have been painted on the walls.

The Shire of Exmouth and Central Regional TAFE teamed up for the project as part of the town’s revitalisation works.

TAFE art lecturer Amanda Campbell is leading the project and said there was already a mural on one of the walls, which was painted by TAFE students in 2001.
