Central Regional TAFE celebrates its successful Scholarship Program

Central Regional TAFE has hosted a scholarship morning tea to acknowledge the significant contribution made by Scholarship sponsors and congratulate the students who have received an award.

Central Regional TAFE Managing Director Bill Swetman said Central Regional TAFE had worked closely with local business and the community for 16 years as part of the innovative Scholarship program, providing students with financial support and mentor guidance.

“We partner with a number of sponsors representing a range of industries.  These include health and community services, business, information technology and environment and the resources sector,” Mr Swetman said.

“I am very proud to say that the scholarship program continues to grow and we look forward to expanding this successful and worthwhile program throughout our expanded training region.”

Mr Swetman said he was pleased to see student winners from across the college’s teaching portfolio.

“We have student nominations from study areas such as electrical, nursing, hospitality, community services, cultural tourism guiding, fabrication, hair dressing, social work, information technology, management, marine, mining and horticulture,” he explained.

Many of the generous sponsors include Community Bank Bendigo Geraldton, JobLink Midwest, Mid-West Development Commission, Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, Rio Tinto, (STAY) Short-term Accommodation for Youth, Metso, RSM, Soroptimist International of Geraldton, the City of Greater Geraldton, St John of God Geraldton Hospital, Western Power and Collgar Wind Farm.

With over 30 Scholarships available, in a variety of study areas including subjects such as cultural tourism guide, marine, office administration and retail worker, each applicant is required to complete a written application and interview which is designed to be challenging but focus on the individual student, their dreams and aspirations.
