Health Care Training Centre announced for the Goldfields

The development of a state-of-the-art Health Care Training Centre at Central Regional TAFE’s (CRTAFE) Kalgoorlie Campus will commence this year.

The Centre will be developed inside CRTAFE’s current main administration building on Cheetham Street, transforming it into a new simulated workplace training environment for students.

The Centre will feature cutting edge facilities and equipment, allowing CRTAFE to expand their training programs across various health care related industries including nursing, aged care, disability services, individual support and mental health. Some features include a fully equipped eight bed hospital ward, reception area, medication room, showers, pan room and an aged care residence.

Director of Training for the Kalgoorlie Campus, Chelsie Grace, said the development of the new Centre was in response to student and community feedback and to ensure TAFE training was on par with current industry standards.

“Our priority is to ensure our graduates receive the best training so they are ready to step into the workforce, the new centre will give students experience using the latest equipment and learn from industry experts” Mrs Grace said.

“CRTAFE specialises in creating student training facilities designed to simulate real work environments, and this centre will provide that. Students will feel like they are in a real hospital or aged care facility and will receive both theoretical learning and practical training which when combined, provides invaluable experience for the future” she said.

“Although we currently provide training in a few of these areas, the new development will ensure we are better placed to meet the growing jobs and skills demand for this sector in the region and expand opportunities to partner with other organisations in providing more educational outcomes for the community - including improved articulation pathways into university” she said.

Certificate IV in Mental Health will be added to the suite of health care related training offered at CRTAFE in 2020. Several courses including Preparation for Health and Nursing Studies, Ageing Support, Disability Services, Allied Health and Individual Support are on the Government’s priority qualifications list and eligible for half price fees in 2020-2021.

The centre is amongst several new developments at CRTAFE, with work also due to commence on a new Business Learning Centre and several new classroom and training areas for students.
