OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS CELEBRATED AT CENTRAL REGIONAL TAFE MIDWEST GRADUATION
Central Regional TAFE (CR TAFE) Geraldton campus hosted the 2025 Graduation and Awards Ceremony at the Queens Park Theatre in Geraldton on Thursday 19 March, celebrating the achievements of graduates and recognising Major Award and Outstanding Achievement winners across a range of study areas.
In 2025, more than 2,100 students successfully completed their training with CR TAFE across nine campuses, including over 1380 graduates from the Midwest and Gascoyne region. On the evening, six students were recognised as recipients of Major Awards for their outstanding achievements.
The Midwest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Award, sponsored by Rio Tinto, was presented to Lana Danischewsky, who graduated with a Diploma of Community Services, Diploma of Counselling and Diploma of Youth Work. Lana consistently demonstrated diligence across both theoretical and practical components of her studies, showing a strong understanding of complex concepts and a genuine commitment to supporting others.
The Midwest Apprentice of the Year Award, sponsored by Bendigo Bank, was awarded to Christopher Johnson, who completed a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. Christopher approaches their work with dedication and curiosity, often going beyond expectations to deepen their understanding and contribute meaningfully to class discussions and practical projects. They are well regarded for their leadership, reliability and willingness to support their peers, contributing positively to the learning environment.
The Midwest Cultural Diversity Training Award, sponsored by Latitude Jewellers, was presented to Felipe Piovesan, who graduated with a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. Felipe aims to work in a technical role that challenges him and allows him to contribute to innovative projects, with aspirations of progressing into a leadership position managing teams or projects in the future.
The Midwest Vocational Student of the Year Award, sponsored by the Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was awarded to Samantha Carter, who graduated with a Diploma of Counselling. Samantha made a courageous career change, enrolling full time after a successful career in early childhood education where she held leadership roles including management, Educational Leader, OHS Officer and RAP Officer. These experiences strengthened her commitment to inclusive, safe and culturally responsive practice.
The Midwest Trainee of the Year Award, sponsored by Humfrey Land Developments, was presented to Vilma Hodder, who completed a Certificate II in Sampling and Measurement. Vilma demonstrated a strong commitment to her traineeship, embracing all aspects of the learning experience, including work conducted on Country. She is passionate about continuing her studies in this field and is currently undertaking Certificate IV in Environmental Monitoring and Technology.
The Midwest International Student of the Year Award, sponsored by Mitsui E&P Australia, was presented to Anastacia Kiguru, who graduated with a Diploma of Community Services. Having previously completed Certificates III and IV while working part time as a support worker, Anastacia demonstrated strong resilience and commitment to the community services sector. She now plans to continue developing her career in case management and supporting vulnerable individuals.
CR TAFE Acting Managing Director Karen Watts praised students for their commitment and achievements.
“Central Regional TAFE’s Graduation and Awards events are a valuable opportunity to celebrate our students’ success,” Ms Watts said.
“In 2025, students from across all campuses have excelled throughout their learning journey and exceeded expectations. Their dedication to completing their training places them on strong pathways to meaningful employment and further study.”
Ms Watts also highlighted the contribution of graduates to the Midwest and Gascoyne region.
“More than 1380 qualified and job‑ready graduates are prepared to add value to local businesses across the Midwest and Gascoyne, bringing skills to industries including community services, hospitality, automotive, engineering and many others.”
“They are also ready to pursue further study and advance their own career aspirations. Sometimes people are surprised by just how broad the range of courses available is at their local TAFE.”
