The course is delivered in two stages over 12 months.  Each stage comprises of a grouping of units which sequentially builds skills and knowledge for the qualification.

Stage 1 comprises of units relating to understanding the tourism and travel industry including the history of local, regional destination, heritage and cultural awareness. Then relating this within a customer service framework. A separate 2-day first aid course is scheduled for term 1.

Stage 2 comprises of researching customer destination and touring needs by brochure, pamphlets and online resources. Presenting information to a customer by way of case study and tour commentary. Health and safety requirements of self, customer taught in term one will be assessed in live situations in term 2.

Graduates can continue their studies in a metal fabrication apprenticeship. Metal fabricators and welders work in a diverse trade, applying a broad range of fabrication and welding skills to industries including: mechanical and civil engineering, mining resources sector, heavy haulage and road transport, agriculture machinery, construction, defence, refineries and material bulk handling. Pre-apprentices are exposed to the latest technological developments in the fabrication and welding trade, including computer controlled metal plate cutting equipment.

Delivery location, important dates and study options

Training at CRTAFE will be offered with a blended, flexible delivery model to enable social distancing measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. This approach may include a combination of online and classroom based delivery, as well as practical and work experience placements. While the mode of delivery may vary, the content and key learning outcomes of the course will remain the same. Lecturers will provide specific instructions to their student groups on how training will be undertaken and the support available to them.

Work Practice

Relevant construction industry work practice undertaken concurrently with delivery of this course is mandatory to achieve the qualification and consolidate student learning and skills development.  The work practice duration of the Pre Apprenticeship is a minimum of 125 hours, of which at least 63 hours must be on the job work placements with an employer.
