GovHack Skills Set

Join the largest open data hackathon in the southern hemisphere.

GovHack is an international event which attracts thousands of participants each year who come together in simultaneous events taking place in major and regional cities across the country.

The event requires competitors to work in small teams during the 46 hour event to produce a ‘hack’ using Australian government data. Teams are judged on the production of a three minute video explaining their idea and its future potential.

A Short course in MYOB AccountRight (Advanced) will extend your basic knowledge of MYOB and help to develop skills in more complex areas of the software.

Learn a variety of techniques to help manage your expenses and payments more efficiently, including applying passwords to restrict unauthorised access to data, controlling petty cash and credit card expenses and payments, generating letters in Microsoft Word, sending information from MYOB to Microsoft Excel and creating sophisticated forms such as invoices, statements and purchase orders.

This course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge to perform day to day bookkeeping operations using MYOB AccountRight.

You will learn to create a company data file complete with historical and opening balances, produce and manage purchase orders and invoices, manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, and produce BAS documentation.

Course Content

  • Modify an existing chart of accounts to suit your business needs.

  • Make changes to customer and supplier details in the card file.

  • Create an inventory in MYOB AccountRight of items for sale.

  • Purchase items for a business in MYOB AccountRight.

  • Enter payments for purchases.

  • Produce complex invoices.

  • Apply customer payments to open invoices.

  • Use MYOB AccountRight's cheque facility for making purchases.

  • Reconcile MYOB AccountRight data against company bank statements.

  • Work with the reporting system.

  • Understand how MYOB AccountRight is setup and works with the GST.

  • Set up and complete a Business Activity Statement.

Learn the more advanced features of Microsoft Excel including analytical tools, pivot tables, Solver, outlining and summarising plus some key automation features such as Macros. This course assumes a good general understanding of the software and experience in the construction and modification of workbooks including the ability to copy within Excel, create charts and create basic formulas.

Participants will:

  • use a range of formula techniques,
  • protect data in worksheets and workbooks,
  • use an advanced filter to analyse data in a list,
  • use a variety of data validation techniques,
  • apply conditional formatting to ranges in a worksheet,
  • use goal seeking to determine the values required to read a desired result,
  • create, use and modify data tables,
  • create and work with scenarios and Scenario Manager,
  • understand and create simple PivotTables,
  • construct and operate PivotTables using some of the more advanced techniques,
  • use data linking to create more efficient workbooks, and
  • use the Data Consolidation feature to combine data from several workbooks into one.

  • use a range of formula techniques,
  • use a range of logical functions,
  • apply a range of number formatting techniques to data,
  • apply conditional formatting in a worksheet,
  • apply borders to cells and ranges,
  • work with various elements of a worksheet,
  • use a range of find and replace techniques,
  • sort data in a list in a worksheet, and
  • filter data in a table.
