At Central Regional TAFE, education support programs are nationally recognised and are aimed at those who are interested in providing assistance and support to teachers and students in various educational settings. You’ll learn how to assist in delivering education programs, and have many opportunities to gain essential skills in managing behaviour and enhance the social, emotional, psychological, cognitive, and language development of young children.
TAFE education support courses require you to undertake supervised work placement, which gives you the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge that you have acquired in a real-world setting. You’ll learn how to work within programs to improve literacy and numeracy in classrooms, work following legal and ethical requirements, implement planned education programs for students with additional needs, and work effectively with culturally diverse students, and staff.
Graduates of our courses have gone on to find positions such as:
- Education Assistant,

- Homeland Teaching Assistant.

Gain the knowledge and practical skills to provide first aid treatment for a wide range of emergencies until the arrival of professional medical help.
This training meets the Level 2 Workplace First Aid standard as determined by WorkSafe (Western Australia).
This course will cover:
- First aid and emergencies
- Legal, workplace and community factors
- Risk management,
- Assess the scene and casualty,
- Maintain hygiene,
- Use manual handling techniques,
- Bleeding, burns, wound and injuries
- Environmental impact

Certificate III in School Based Education Support
Study modes:
Support students with additional needs, and assist teachers with creating comfortable and encouraging class environments.
This qualification is nationally recognised, providing you with future job opportunities to gain employment in the education sector. It is aimed at workers who provide assistance and support to teachers and students in a range of educational settings. These may include public, Catholic and independent schools and community education centres.
You will learn how to effectively communicate with students and colleagues, provide support to students in developing their literacy and numeracy skills and learn how to work collaboratively as part of an educational team. As part of this qualification you will undertake supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.
You will gain the following skills:

- Integrating Information Communication Technology (ICT) across the curriculum
- Implementing planned education programs for students with additional needs

Certificate IV in School Based Education Support
Study modes:
Work with children and teachers to enhance learning in school environments.
You will have the opportunity to undertake a wide variety of tasks in the classroom and school setting to contextualise this knowledge and improve your practical skills.
This qualification is nationally recognised, providing you with future job opportunities to gain employment in the education sector. A key focus of this course is on supporting students with special needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. In addition you will develop an awareness of diversity in the education sector and wider community and understand the need to promote cultural safety.
You will gain the knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- Contributing to and implementing behaviour management plans
- Understanding and applying legal and ethical requirements
- Contributing to and implementing documented education plans for students with additional needs
- Identifying and responding to children and young people at risk
- Working effectively with students with a diverse range of additional needs, and
- Participating in workplace health and safety.
