Classroom & TAFE Environment

Central Regional TAFE is an adult learning environment and so students will be expected to behave responsibly, manage their workload independently and seek help from their lecturer as required. It is important to note that students under 18 will be sharing TAFE facilities such as the library, canteen and computer labs with adult students.

Learning activities may be delivered in a variety of ways, not just in a classroom environment as students may be used to. Students may be required to participate in lectures, tutorials, online learning, work placements, assessments, research, project work, group work and workshops.

Some VET DSS courses are delivered across different locations, such as more than one campus or at a workplace. In these circumstances, parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring the student’s travel arrangements.

Some assessments may involve students to undergo tasks/assignments outside of their scheduled timetable. Some of these are undertaken in the community.

Attendance

Students are responsible for ensuring they attend their classes and activities. They are also responsible for notifying their lecturers if they are not able to attend, or if they are running late.

Class records of attendance and absences are reported to participating schools each day. If a student is repeatedly absent, their school may be contacted about the student’s continuation in the program.

Supervision

Central Regional TAFE does not provide supervision of students outside of their classes and learning activities.

Excursions

In the case of excursions, parents and guardians will be provided with information before the event. Students under 18 will require written consent from their parent/guardian to participate in any excursions away from the TAFE premises. If consent is not given, the student will not be allowed to attend the excursion and Central Regional TAFE will not provide an alternative activity.

Students may be required to make their own way to an excursion, and parents/guardians will be responsible for organising transport for their child.

Health & Safety

At Central Regional TAFE, we strive to create a healthy and safe environment for all of our students. We have the following measures in place:

  • OSH policy, guidelines and practices.
  • First-aid officers who are available to students at all campuses.
  • An Emergency Response Plan including the ability to arrange medical personnel in the case of an emergency.
  • Accident/Incident reports available to parents if their child is seriously injured.
  • No tolerance for bullying or harassment. Any student who experiences these should speak to a staff member immediately.
  • All relevant staff have a Working with Children Check.

Insurance

Students are not covered for Personal Accident or any loss or damage to property while they are on a Central Regional TAFE campus.

However, students who are undertaking unpaid work experience arranged by Central Regional TAFE have Personal Accident cover under the Insurance Commission of WA (RiskCover). This is also true for any student attending an official college camp, excursion or other off-campus activity which is approved and organised by Central Regional TAFE.

If parents and guardians believe this coverage is not adequate, they are responsible for organising their own private health cover of Personal Accident insurance for their child.
