Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

More than a word. Reconciliation takes action.

This year's Reconciliation Week theme More than a word. Reconciliation takes action urges the reconciliation movement towards braver and more impactful action.

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Campus Reconciliation Week Events

Our students, staff and community enjoyed events across our campuses last week.

At our Geraldton campus attendees were treated to special cultural performances by Geraldton Senior High School Stars Foundation and the Midwest Clontarf Academy.  Our Community Services students also organised several activities including painting boomerangs and other games. There was also a Reconciliation cake cutting and several staff professional development and cultural awareness sessions held throughout the week.

At our Kalgoorlie campus General Education for Adults students participated in a sand mural activity, resulting in some amazing art for our Reconciliation display. Gary Cooper's Welcome to Country was a beautiful introduction to a campus BBQ event which saw many enjoy Kangaroo Kebabs, games and other activities. Cake Decorating Lecturer Gloria made delicious cookies in the shape of hands, iced in colours to represent all of the skin colours of Australia.

Our Northam and Carnarvon campus also held events which were well attended by students, staff and the community. Thank you to all have contributed and particapted in events throughout the week.
