That's right... free training! 

We are serious when we say we want to help you get skills ready! We have worked closely with WA industries, businesses and employers to find out the types of skills needed right now and for future jobs.  

These free skill sets are made up of units of competency from nationally recognised vocational education and training (VET) qualifications, you will receive credit for them if you choose to go on to further study. Some are also available for blended or online study. 

Free training courses are broken up into the below two categories:

Free* Job Ready Skill Sets

Not all jobs need a full qualification, and maybe you don't either — skill sets are the perfect solution. 

Some are 100% free for everyone including:

Others are free for eligible students - including displaced workers, concession students and youth up to 25 years (not at school).  There are fee paying options for those that don't meet the eligibility.

  • Persons aged 15—24 years at the time of enrolment (excluding school students)
  • Secondary school-aged persons who are not enrolled at school
  • Persons receiving the JobSeeker or JobKeeper payment
  • Persons and dependents of persons receiving the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons and dependents of persons holding:
    • a pensioner concession card or Health Care Card; or
    • Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs
  • Dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution

Free Infection Control Skill Sets

These skill sets are 100% free for everyone. 

Please note: The minimum age requirement for the Entry Into Care Roles and the COVID-19 Direct Care skill sets is 18 years. For the other infection control skill sets, students must be 15 years of age or older

The COVID-19 pandemic is an evolving situation which has highlighted the importance of preventing infection through strict hygiene practices and by following other health guidelines. In Western Australia, trained and skilled aged care and disability workers are in high demand now and will continue to be as we move into the recovery phase of the pandemic. 

In this course you will learn about the basis of infection from viruses to bacteria as well as modes of transmission, infection prevention and control — including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) — and handling contaminated waste. You will gain the skills you need to deliver care and support, utilise infection control measures and safe manual handling techniques.

You'll meet and learn from local, successful hospitality, food and produce operators and be introduced to local produce and food specialties of the region.

Heavy Vehicle Driving Operations Skill Set

Help keep WA moving.

This six-week driver training program will get you ready to join the transport and logistics industry. Upon successful completion, you'll obtain one of the following licenses: Heavy Rigid; Heavy Combination; or Multi Combination class vehicle, and may apply for a forklift (LF) license.

Join the transport industry and keep WA moving.

This six-week driver trainer program provides real, hands-on experience with practical hours in heavy haulage.  Upon successful completion, you'll be ready to join the transport and logistics industry, which currently has a huge demand for skilled workers. 

In this training program you will learn how to:
  • follow work health and safety procedures;
  • carry out inspection of trailers;
  • secure, load and unload cargo of goods;
  • apply work fatigue management strategies; and
  • use and maintain mechanical equipment.

The driving instruction training component of the program is conducted in a range of conditions and locations, with coaching from qualified and experienced drivers.

Participants will obtain one of the following licenses:

  • Heavy Rigid
  • Heavy Combination; or
  • Multi Combination class vehicle

You may also apply for a forklift (LF) licence
